Garick Hill, MD, President

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital   |  Cincinnati, OH

Dr. Hill completed medical school as well as his residency in Pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem North Carolina. He then completed his fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology and a 4th year in Advanced Imaging at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. He is currently at Associate Professor at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He serves as the director of the echo lab and co-director of the Non-Invasive Imaging 4th year fellowship there. He is part of the single ventricle team, caring for patients between the Norwood operation and Glenn procedure, in addition to completing transthoracic, transesophageal and fetal echocardiography studies. His research interests are primarily in single ventricle heart disease outcomes and he serves as the chair of the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative (NPC-QIC) Research Committee.

Mark DeBrunner, Vice President

UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh

Dr. DeBrunner completed medical school at Wright State University in 2004 before his residency in Pediatric at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus Ohio. He completed fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis Indiana in 2010 and has been on faculty at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh since that time. He is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He has a long history of mentoring trainees and is the Director of the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Program. He has mentored medical students, pediatric residents and pediatric cardiology fellows clinically, in research, and in career development. In 2019 he was honored with the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Chair Distinction Award for his work.

Peter Bartz, MD, Ex-Officio

Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin  | Milwaukee, WI

Dr. Bartz is a Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee Wisconsin. He completed medical school at the University of Minnesota followed by residency in Medicine and Pediatrics at Western Michigan University. He then completed Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. He was previously the director of the pediatric cardiology fellowship training program at Children’s Wisconsin. Currently he serves as the Clinical Vice President of Ambulatory Services for Children’s Wisconsin, the Medical Director of the Herma Heart Institute and the Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His clinical interests are in echocardiography and adult congenital Heart Disease.

Jonathan Johnson, MD, Treasurer

Mayo Clinic | Rochester, MN

Dr. Johnson is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  He attended medical school at Wayne State University School of Medicine, and then completed both pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic.  Dr. Johnson currently serves as the Chair of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic, and is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Heart Transplant program at Mayo.  His clinical interests include heart failure, transplant, mechanical circulatory support, and echocardiography.  He has served as the Treasurer of MWPCS since 2015.

Gerald Serwer, MD, Secretary

C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital | Ann Arbor, MI

Dr. Serwer is a Professor of Pediatrics at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan. He completed his medical school training, residency and fellowship training at Duke University. His clinical interests are in Electrophysiology.
